'Ori Tahiti

Laelia

Laelia has been dancing since childhood, with her previous major influences being in figure skating and oriental dance. She has danced in several internationally acclaimed semi-professional and professional troupes, performing on stages both with them and solo throughout Belgium and internationally. Benefitting from the experience of many excellent teachers, she has also been teaching classes for several years.

In 2015, during her first long-term stay in French Polynesia, she confirmed her fascination and love of the local dances, art and culture, and decided to specialize in ‘Ori Tahiti, learning from, amongst others, Heihere (Mo'orea), Vainui Duberne (Mahaora), Joelle Berg, and the CAPF (Conservatoire Artistique de Polynésie Française, Tahiti). Following her return to Europe, she has continued learning and created Mahana in order to share her love of this dance and culture.

Workshops

Mahana regularly offers workshops, both in Liège and further out; don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like us to organize one in your area!

We also regularly invite guest teachers from abroad, to give workshop days or weekends. Make sure to keep an eye on our upcoming events to not miss out!.

Projects & Collaborations

A great believer in the strength and beauty of diversity, Laelia enjoys creating partnerships across dance styles. In 2019, along with 2 friends and dancers - Azora (oriental / tribal fusion dance) and Valeria (samba / Brazilian dances) - she participated in the creation of the Aether Dance performance group, and Mahana's dance school section is part of the Aether Dance network, making it easy for our students to take part in classes offered within the network and learn other dance styles.

2021 News

This year, Laelia has been invited to share her expertise in Martinique by joining the teacher team at Moemoea o Porinetia, and opening classes in the island's South/Caribbean region. Together with Mahana, the students will learn shared choreographies across the Atlantic and work on parallel themes and projects.
